Homemade Rabbit Treats

Smack Snacks

I'd never even thought of posting this here until I saw the entry for homemade dog treats. I figured this would be worth posting because with over 8,000 members, certainly someone must have a pet rabbit. :)

This is my recipe for homemade rabbit treats. It's a bit time-consuming and makes a big mess, but it's worth it because it's so much healthier than treats sold in stores (which are usually the rabbit equivalent of donuts and candy bars). My three bunnies go CRAZY for these snacks, and Amy Sedaris' rabbit, Dusty, goes so bonkers for these that Amy put the recipe in her hospitality cookbook, I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence. So if you have a pet rabbit (or have a friend who does), you might want to give these a shot.

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure that hamsters can have all of those ingredients, so I don't see why not. And these would definitely be healthier than any snacks you could buy at the store.

I made this tonight for my bun-bun, Silke. Kind of a pain in the ass to make, but she looooved them, so it was well worth it.

Thank you!

I'm glad it worked out for you! It is a huge production to make these, and it makes an enormous mess (as I'm sure you found out), but I think it's worth it because they're sooooo much healthier than any bunny snacks you can buy in the store. Because it is so much work, I always make a big enough batch to last me a few months.

Frank's going to adore these! Thanks for posting the recipe.
herbanlifestyle.wordpress.com my rabbit loves these!12th-Feb-2011 12:15 am (UTC)
I bought a bag of your treats at the 2010 BUST Holiday Craftacular after Amy Sedaris recommended them. My rabbit loves them! When she hears me opening the bag she comes running over to get one. I was very happy to find this recipe, because when they run out, I know my rabbit will definitely appreciate a new supply. Thanks!

I bet my bunny, MooFasa will adore these! I need to give her new treats, she gets bored from her store bought treats. I think i'll be happier with her eating these, since i'd know for sure what she's eating. I'm a super protective bunny mommy (:

Xochitl Popoca What kind of Pellets???24th-Feb-2016 05:28 am (UTC)
Alrighty so there's pellets I have for my rabbit Benji, but they're potty pellets you know? The pellets I've been seeing used for the rabbit treats look like those.. So do I use that? Or??
