Homemade Rabbit Treats

Smack Snacks

I'd never even thought of posting this here until I saw the entry for homemade dog treats. I figured this would be worth posting because with over 8,000 members, certainly someone must have a pet rabbit. :)

This is my recipe for homemade rabbit treats. It's a bit time-consuming and makes a big mess, but it's worth it because it's so much healthier than treats sold in stores (which are usually the rabbit equivalent of donuts and candy bars). My three bunnies go CRAZY for these snacks, and Amy Sedaris' rabbit, Dusty, goes so bonkers for these that Amy put the recipe in her hospitality cookbook, I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence. So if you have a pet rabbit (or have a friend who does), you might want to give these a shot.

Xochitl Popoca What kind of Pellets???24th-Feb-2016 05:28 am (UTC)
Alrighty so there's pellets I have for my rabbit Benji, but they're potty pellets you know? The pellets I've been seeing used for the rabbit treats look like those.. So do I use that? Or??

Cassandra Suzanne Thank you!8th-Jul-2016 05:21 am (UTC)
I appreciate this recipe, it's exactly what I had in mind. I found some other recipes on the Internet that look... dubious. I like that wheat flour isn't used for this. I'm sure my bunny Tenshi is going to go crazy when I make these! I'm thinking about a little less carrot and some apple instead, since my rabbit doesn't care for carrots. We'll see how that goes! May even try some blueberries for color and flavor, while I'm spoiling him..... ;)
Lisa Brendle using Timothy hay dust and shreds at bottom of bag supply24th-Sep-2017 03:45 am (UTC)
I use the dust and hay shred bits left at the bottom of the bag and any sturdy greens (ie not cilantro or lettuces, too soft, watery) like parsley, lovage, fresh mint, fresh oregano stems and similar and a little canned pumpkin in lieu of water.
yes, bunnies go bananas for these...Thanks for the recipe!!!
