Devil's Food (Twilight cake)

TV - D: They taped over your mouth

My sister is a huge Twilight fanatic and for her 15th birthday two weeks ago, I decided to make her an epic cake. It didn't really turn out as epic as planned but she cried when she saw it, so I was pretty happy.

I bought a package of Wilton's fondant to mold the people. I've never taken any classes or anything; I just do this for fun. :) I found the recipe in my mom's Pillsbury cookbook and it was the easiest recipe I've used thus far.

1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 1/4 cups sugar
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa
1 1/4 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup buttermilk
2/3 cup oil
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 eggs

Heat oven to 350° F. Grease and lightly flour bottoms only of two 8-inch round cake pans. In a large bowl, blend all ingredients at low speed until moistened; beat 3 minutes at medium speed. Pour batter into prepared pans. Bake at 350 for about 25 to 30 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 5 minute; remove from pans. Cool completely and frost as desired.

Now for my question. Do you guys have any suggestions for the leftover fondant? I have a ton left and no idea what to do with it. I'm not even sure if it's still good; each color is wrapped in saran wrap and is inside an air tight container in the fridge. Any suggestions would be awesome. :)

you shouldn't have to refrigerate your fondant, just so you know

as far as what to do with fondant besides decorating...i'm stumped! but good job on the cake :)

you don't need to refrigerate the fondant. just keep it wrapped in plastic and keep it in a cool place like a cabinet or pantry. :]

Neat cake.
Triple wrap the fondant, keep it in your pantry, or wherever you store your canned goods. As long as it is wrapped well, out of direct light, not too hot or too cold you'll be good to go.
Also, overtime it can become a bit stiff. You can take a chunk and pop it in the microwave for 3 seconds or so, that'll help bring it back to life, or add a TEENY amount of warm water to whatever amount you want to use and kneed till right consistency.
Refrigerating fondant tends to melt it and make it unusable, same with putting it in the freezer.

Thanks!

That certainly would free up some space in the fridge! Thanks for the tips! :D
