Hiya Bakers,
It's your Friendly Neighbourhood Mod of Indecision back again. Along with my inability to make decisions, I really feel this baby belongs to all of us, so I'd like you guys to be actively involved in the decision-making process.
Now that LJ's Release 93 is officially out it's time to ask you guys how you feel about a new feature: community email. This new feature allows communities to send an email to members of the comm. Communities can't send emails more than once a day, and it is completely opt-out for you guys.
Now, given I moderate your posts I see everything that goes on in the community (well, except comments, I don't have enough free time to stalk you all), but a lot of members don't log in every day, if at all. So this feature may be more helpful to you guys than I think it is.
So how would you feel about updatey emails? I don't see the need to send them more than once a month, but I'll let you guys have your say on that in a momento. Emails would typically include the general goings on in the community: featured posts, theme winners and announcements, news updates regarding any changes in the community. Perhaps we could feature a baker each month and get one of you to write an 'about me' or something? I dunno, I'm just thinking out loud. Let me know what you guys would like to see in it (if anything at all). I'm not sure yet if emails will be text only or can be spiffied up, so that will limit what we can do.
Since it's hard to get people to write a comment at the best of times, here's a poll for you to let me know your thoughts. But I would really appreciate some commenty-feedback on this.

Would you like to see BBB make use of the community email feature?
View Answers
I'd like to receive monthly emails from BBB
I'd like to receive fortnightly emails from BBB
I'd like to receive weekly emails from BBB
I'll be opting out of this feature
Fence-sitter option
Emails-are-spam-and-enrage-me option

I have to work out what to make of the opt outs. If there's enough interest otherwise I might proceed, given that those who don't want it can opt out. But if it's only a handful then it's probably not worth the effort.
I'm surprised people have voted for weekly!
My thought exactly. When information is spread out it's hard to remember where something in particular came from. I already have a hard enough time keeping info from different communities straight; I'm hesitant to add e-mail to the mix.
There is too much email in my life as it is and I don't need more. I have the community on my friends page and read every post.
I enjoy this community as it currently is.
I don't see why not, if people are given the option to receive as many or as few as they want :)
It becomes redundant when I'm getting the same information from multiple sources.
As far as content goes, this might be more work than you'd want to do but I like the idea of a little link/recipe round-up each month.
A monthly round-up post on LJ would also have my support though, just to make sure I haven't missed anything and it would make it easier for people who only check out things occasionally to see what was going on.
and if i haven't logged in in a while it means i don't care if i've missed anything. :) besides, i can always keep scrolling until i recognize something i've already seen before!
