December Theme

Since there were no entries for November's theme contest (no bakey love for the furbabies?), there's no poll for last month.

December's theme is PEPPERMINT.

In the interest of the Christmas spirit, December's contest will be open to everyone. So if you were ineligible for winning over the last three months, you can enter December's contest.

Happy baking!

Ineligible for winning? How does that happen?

I didn't do a pet entry because I was ridiculously busy with cake orders (some of which got posted here) and school and stuff :( and I don't think anything my bunnies could safely eat can be BAKED anyway.

Winners of the contest are ineligible to win again for three months. You can join in the theme, but you can't win.

We actually had a couple of people a few years ago who baked for their bunnies.

Ohhh...I'm definitely entering this one. I was hoping that would be the theme, actually. It's such a great one for December.

It seemed like such the obvious choice!

I'm pretty new in this LJ (but I already love it *_* ) and I have a small question.
How does this theme contest work?
Do I have to create a recipe?
Do I bake something and make it look pretty?

Lovely to hear from a new member! Glad to hear you have been enjoying the comm.

For the theme contests, you just have to bake something according to the theme. You can interpret the theme however you like (e.g for this one you could bake something that tastes like peppermint, or something that looks like a peppermint, etc etc), all that is required is that the theme has to be easily identifiable in the baked good. If I can't identify the component or you haven't specified it won't be included. This rarely happens - most of the time it does it seems the baker has simply mistaken the theme post tag for the holiday post tag.

There's no requirement for prettiness or originality. Most members do not post original recipes. It's quite difficult to create an original recipe anyway -- most of it is based on an established recipe. If you do use another's recipe (copy and paste it rather than putting it in your own words) then it is polite to credit the source. It's not something I can or will police, but nettiquete is nice.

To enter you have to post to the community with the recipe included in the post (you can't just post a link to the recipe) and you have to tag your entry with the "!theme post" tag. The winner is decided by running a poll for all the members of the community to vote in. So while there is no requirement photographs or standard to enter, most members tend to gravitate towards those with appetising photographs.

You can refer to the contet rules on the user info page at any time or ask me if you have any questions.

OOOOOh. Time to go rummage through the old (old, OLD) family cookbook. (actually, I borrowed it and typed up a copy for myself, which may tell you how very, very old it is; I TYPED a copy for myself about 20 years ago, and the book was very old then)

If only peppermint marshmallows involved baking. :)

Maybe I will have to include them in a baked good! hmm...

I posted a pet recipe in late September. A little sad to not see any new ones here last month!

There are so many options of marshmallows in baking! I'm sure you can get quite creative with them.

I thought the pet theme might entice some more pet posts, but sadly not! Is that your puppy on the front page of LJ, by the way?

Ooh.. visions of homemade graham cracker s'mores with peppermint marshmallows just popped into my head! Yummmm.

& yes! That's my pup, Butters! I didn't realize the pet community was still in the spotlight this week. :)

I thought I recognised that cute face! Lately LJ have been changing the spotlight every few weeks. I think BBB was in it for about 3 or so weeks last time.
