Baked Apples

Posted on 01/03/2012 by lady_of_clunn

A comfort food Christmas dessert that is light enough not to kill you after eating large amounts of turkey/goose/duck/carp and all its trimmings.

It's also quick and simple. Just pop it in the oven once you've taken out the turkey/goose/duck/carp and it will be ready when it's time for pudding.

You need:

6 apples (I like Bramley or Cox Orange. I would not recommend Granny Smith for this.)
200g marzipan
about 30-50g flour
1/2 a teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
a generous sprinkle of ground nutmeg
50g butter
1/2 cup of water

Optional: Some (rum) raisins

Pit the apples.

Cut the marzipan into small-ish pieces, add butter and knead well until blended. Add raisins if you decide you want to include them. Mix flour with spices and add to the marzipan until the dough is noticeably less sticky.

Stuff the marzipan mix into the pitted apples, forming a bit of a mound on top.

Place in a fire proof dish and add the water to it.

Bake at 150 C for about 30 minutes.

Serve with hot or cold custard or vanilla sauce or whatever you call it where you are :)

I let the post through, but you may want to fix your lj cut. It seems to have eaten your coding.

Looks lovely, otherwise!

Thank you!

I don't know what happened - even one of my pictures disappeared...

It looks like there was a missing symbol (perhaps an inverted comma?) in your lj-cut and so in incorporated all the following text into it. Html can be so finicky!
